ABOUT 28:

Learning the importance of grief, art and community.

This series focuses on a third-generation U.S. citizen, New Yorker, and gallery curator named D.J.. When her parents suddenly pass away, she inherits her childhood home: A historic brownstone in Downtown Manhattan purchased by her immigrant grandmother. In dealing with the tragedy of losing her parents, she bands together with her found family to make it a home for artists in need.

We have no doubt that “28” will be an important part of the conversation around underrepresented voices, the harms of gentrification and help enact change off-screen in the future.

We’re aiming to raise $28,000 to fairly pay our cast, crew and properly cover all production costs.

PRODUCTION

Between May 19th and May 25th, we shot the pilot in Brooklyn and Manhattan with an expert cast and crew.

We are now fundraising to crank out the 30 minute pilot: sound mixing, color editing, musical score and marketing.

A Fruit House Films Production

This production will be primarily run by Fruit House: a multimedia collective designed to amplify fresh voices, lead with love, and share stories rooted in unabashed authenticity.

The inspiration from this story came to Kylee when she was thinking about the allegations of New York being dead and done after lockdown. It simply was not and is not the case. WHAT IS dying is the place for natives and artists used to thrive. The autopsy includes a laundry list of factors: apartment rental companies and slumlords; gentrification, etc

As a born, bred and based New Yorker, Kylee knows the true center of her home is often mistaken for a glitzy, clean, and wealthy playground; and although that may be true for many, people often forget that artists, activists, and non-profit organizations are the reason NYC is the epicenter that it is.

With that, Fruit House and this production are dedicated to ensuring the fair pay of our cast and crew.

Production is slated to begin in mid-May 2023 and scheduled for a July release. We aim to submit the pilot into the 2023-2024 film festival circuit, and sell the finished product to streaming platforms and various networks by EOY 2023.
